Now that you're acquainted with the sounds, let's start talking words!
Let's introduce you to a small sample of vocabulary! We'll be using these a lot.
Selsimicu uses the word order of SOV (Subject, Object, Verb). This means basic sentences are pretty easy to form. You just say the subject, and the verb (we'll start with the object in just a second). Check out these example sentences, and see if you can get a good feel for what they mean:
Yeah, you got it! I mean, I hope you got it! Selsimicu doesn't have articles (the, a, an), so simple sentences really are as simple as they can be!
By default, Selsimicu's adjectives work like verbs functionally (meaning something like "to be X"). This means you can say pafrim sua (the flower is new), pulwoto toi (the bird is big), or cawa lexso (the water is bad) super easily as well!
But then, what if I wanted to say "new flower", "big bird", or "bad water"? Well, it order for adjectives to apply to a word, they have to have the suffix -n!
So, while pulwoto toi is "the bird is big", pulwoto toin is "big bird"!
This applies to every adjective, except one... ken! ken negates the thing it's modifying (whether that be a noun, verb or adjective), and thus it doesn't change form when it is modifying.
Now, we can combine these! Try to decipher these couple sentences:
Adverbs? No need to fear! Selsimicu merges adverbs and adjectives! "nitsan" can mean "good" or "well", depending on what it's modifying! You can say eifa nitsan xubu (the good human draws), eifa xubu nitsan (the human draws well), or even eifa nitsan xubu nitsan (the good human draws well)!
As said a bit above, Selsimicu uses SOV order, meaning that the object of the sentence goes between the subject and the verb! Wouldn't this be confusing? Maybe at first, but given that it's the most common word order in all languages (just below SVO, English's word order), it's probably fine. Let's do a bit more reading! Since we're ramping up slightly, the actual meaning is now provided below!
Congratulations! You are now one step closer to learning Selsimicu for realsies! If you need to review this page a couple times, that's alright! These base concepts with become even more important as time goes on.
